Cape Town Weather
Cape Town weather is determined by its position at the southwestern tip of Africa.
Cape Town lies at the south-western tip of Africa, located in the Western Cape province of South Africa. The weather in Cape Town is mild as the city is blessed with a Mediterranean climate. The weather is different from most other areas of South Africa.
The unique geography of the Cape Peninsula plays an important role in the Cape Town weather patterns. Cape Town CBD lies at the foot of the north slope of the iconic Table Mountain. Suburbs are located on the slopes all around Table Mountain and along the spine of mountains stretching down to the Cape of Good Hope.
The western coastline of the Cape Peninsula is washed by the icy waters of the Atlantic Ocean. The continental shelf is located just 25 nautical miles south of Cape Town dropping off into the ocean abyss. Beyond this the oceans stretch uninterrupted towards the South Pole. This makes for dramatic weather and wave action along this coastline and Cape Town can be battered by some violent storms during the winter months.
